Brasov is situated on foot of the Carpathians, in a fabulous landscape, at 43 km from Poiana Brasov spa and Sinaia, 167 km from Bucuresti and is the most important connection point between Transylvania, Muntenia and Moldova. The city is a medieval city, with a history over 800 years (in past Brasov had the name Corona Fortress) but in the same time is a powerful industrial and comercial centre. The most important attraction of the city is Sfatului Square, situated in centre of the old city, surrounded here and there by fortress wall’s remainders. In the same time (1420), were builded important buildings from square’s surrounding: Sfatului House (where had worked the local administration and in the present is arranged a historical museum), Black Church (the biggest religious edifice between Vien and Istambul), Café houses, restaurants and shops, which give an bohemian air of the city. The Black Church (Lutheran church) is an important historical and art monument of the country. The Black Church name was obtained after the big city’s fire (1689), when the smokes and flames had blackened the walls without to be distroyed and the edifice’s grandeur remained intact. In church’s inside keep today too, some furniture pieces and remarkable cult objects. Also near the square is situated Republicii Streat with numerous shops, especially handicraft stores (wool carpets, wood toys, painted icons etc.). The best imagine of the city could be realized climbing up with the telecabin on Tampa Peak. From here you will see a spectacular view over the whole region. An other place worth to be visited is the Weavers’ Building (Bastionul Tesatorilor). The building was a protection shield with galleries, observatory places and a shelter for fortress’ guilds. Here were stored the guilds’ documents, had kept the meetings for military instructions, apprentices learn the weaving mill’s mysteries. Due to the acoustics performance in the building inside, the place serves today symphony concerts. The city blends the touristical attractions and the recreation-entertainment possibilities (traditional and modern restaurants, bars, clubs, discos, cinemas, variety show halls etc.)
